Dual-source 10 kV ring network for a 4C civil airport.

A 4C-grade civil airport in Yibin, energized in 2019 through a dual-source 10 kV ring network fed from 220 kV and 110 kV grid substations, with 31 transformers and 20.56 MVA of installed capacity sized for a decade of growth.
01 / Project Overview

A 4C airfield built for 2 million passengers by 2025.

Yibin Wuliangye Airport entered service in 2019 as a 4C-grade civil airfield, planned for 2 million annual passengers, 11,000 tonnes of cargo and 25,157 aircraft movements by 2025. The facility accommodates B737-800 and A321 operations across a 24,000 m² terminal, thirteen parking stands and six boarding bridges.

Power supply follows a dual-source 10 kV ring network — two feeders drawn from the 220 kV Ziyan substation and two from the 110 kV Hongba substation, tied through 14.5 km of 3×400 mm² buried cable across four ring lines. Thirty-one transformers deliver 20,560 kVA of installed capacity, deliberately sized for a ten-year growth horizon.

—— Electrical Design Highlights

Dual-source ring architecture with 10-year headroom.

Every critical load at the airfield is reachable from two independent grid sources, with cable and transformer capacity reserved against a decade of traffic growth.

What was delivered.

Three critical power nodes — a central substation, a terminal MV/LV switchgear room and a terminal diesel generator room — together with the ring-main and transformer backbone.

01

DUAL-SOURCE

Dual-Source Ring Network

Two 10 kV cables are drawn from the 220 kV Ziyan substation and two from the 110 kV Hongba substation, then tied through four buried ring cables totaling 14.5 km of 3×400 mm² conductor. Any single feeder can be lost without dropping airfield load.

02

DISTRIBUTION

31-Transformer Distribution

Thirty-one transformers sum to 20,560 kVA of installed capacity, deliberately sized against the 2025 traffic forecast and held in reserve for a further ten years of demand growth across terminal, airfield and support zones.

03

CRITICAL ROOMS

Critical-Room Power Supplies

Three dedicated power nodes — the central substation switchgear room, the terminal MV/LV switchroom and the terminal diesel generator room — anchor the airport’s most safety-critical loads with segregated supply paths.
